Funny Story

Last year when Gogo was visiting us she went shopping in the bargain shops on North End Road and came home with a 'little' swimming pool for Nicholas. When we put it up we realised why it was called 'little' and why it only cost £1. We had a good laugh about it then and still do everytime we bring it out. There's still a lot of fun the boys can have with it. Here they are playing 'row row your boat' ending with some loud 'ssccrreeaammiinngg'.

These are my two gorgeous boys!
And this is what we did on saturday!

Marce and her kids

Marce, Seb, Jett and Ella-Skye came to London for a holiday recently. It was great to spending time having fun with them like we used to before they moved back to South Africa. We miss them so much. Here are some photos from our picnic at the Hurlingham Club which must have the best playground in London not to mention an open air swimming pool. Before we got to the exit both kids were out for the count ... a sign of a fun filled day ...

PS: Thanks for the nice clothes Tessie!

Forest Camping

We joined JP, Erica and Genevieve and some of their friends for a bit of camping in Forge Wood Forest in Kent for the long weekend. Thankfully the rain stopped soon after we arrived and the rest of the weekend was sunny albeit a bit on the chilly side. The camp was in a magical clearing amongst the trees and blue bells. The tents were arranged in a circle around the open wood fire that we kept going basically the whole weekend. JP and Erica made it so nice with all their ground sheets, hammock, laterns and bunting.

It was simply great hanging around in the camp. The kids had a ball going in and out of the tents, making bluebell bredie in the potjie, blowing and chasing bubbles, playing make believe with JP (who is a brilliant facilitator by the way), building a fort and playing musical instruments around the fire.

It was also great fun exploring the surrounding forest. Nicholas and Daniel enjoyed walking along logs, hiding behind trees, jumping off stumps, collecting sticks for the fire and branches for the fort, looking for interesting things and singing We're going on a bear hunt.

One of the highlights was flying the kites in a lovely lush field on the edge of the forest. Nicholas got the knack of it really quickly and absolute loved it. Until he accidentally let go and the wind took the kite way up into the tree tops. Luckily there were some boy scouts among us so after locating the handle and the kite, miles apart, JP and Dad set out to try and free it. Believe it or not they succeeded. Not only was Nicholas very impressed but so were the rest of us.

The field also provided the opportunity for some other fun and games. The blue skies and the green grass seemed to have an intoxicating effect on the kids and provided me with a good photo opportunity.

JP ordered an OS map especially for the trip. As you know Nicholas is fascinated by maps so enjoyed planning a hike with him. It was so much fun for Nicholas to find landmarks from the map along the way. He was just very disappointed when our destination, a weir, was out of bounds. At least we could see the dam in the distance and we could 'throw all the imagineray fish that they caught back into the water'.

We're already looking forward to our next camping trip!
