The Royal Wedding

The previous day's trip into London made us decide to join the masses in Hyde Park to witness the royal wedding. I'm glad we decided to go because the atmosphere was great and we felt part of the celebrations!

It was a relaxed setting perfect for the kids.
We had a great view of one of the big screens.
The kids had an absolute ball hijacking flags (and food) from nearby spectactors.
The only way we could get Martin to hold the British flag
was to send him to get us some lattes.
Later we enjoyed some (expensive) champagne
and wedding cake (beautifully packaged).
The kids just wanted that cake.
Luckily someone came past with some cute cupcakes just at the right time.
Trying to get a closer view of the balcony appearance.
And finally, the fly-by right over our heads. When we got home Monique whipped up some scrumptious scones
served with Gogo's homemade strawberry jam and cream.

Bird's Eye View

No trip for visitors to London would be complete without going on The London Eye. The kids were a handful - if it wasn't the one clambering about it was the other and sometimes even all three at the same time - my nerves were on edge by the end of it. It was, however, a special treat for all of us!

Wedding Buildup

Last Thursday we went into London to soak up some of the royal wedding atmosphere. The fun started on the train journey into Waterloo and continued until the train journey back to Putney. After a memorable trip on the London Eye we walked London flat. We started off along the South Bank (enjoying all the street artists), over the bridge to Embankment and on to Trafalgar Square (where we spotted the royals), through Admiralty Arch and down Pall Mall to Buckingham Palace (just in time to witness the changing of the guards), then back through St James Park to Parliment Square (with the most spectacular display of flags) and over the Thames back to where we started (glad that we weren't amongst all the crazy people camping out along the route waiting for the wedding). It was well worth it and very interesting to see!
