Olympics - Football

Football wasn't top of our list of events to attend but since we couldn't get tickets for anything else and due to Nicholas' enthusiasm for the sport we decided to join the fans at Wembley on the Sunday evening.  We started the outing off with a meander along the South Bank to soak up some of the atmosphere before heading to the stadium.  It was such a relaxed setup so the boys could wander around and weren't phased in the least about being there for 2 whole games.  I think it made quite an impression on them especially Nicholas and we enjoyed it too!

Olympics - Park

We also managed to get day passes for the Olympic Park.  I am so glad we managed to squeeze it in because it gave us a sense of what the whole setup was like, so when we watched the events on tv we could picture the place.  The park was amazing with lots of open space, big screens and places to hang around along the canal between the different venues.  We had a lovely relaxing day there before charging off home to catch our taxi to the airport for our flight to SA.  Talk about cutting it fine!

Olympics - Mascots

Our Olympic experience ended with the Mascot Trail (when we got back from SA at the beginning of September).  The website had a few trails mapped out that you could follow around to explore different parts of London.  Had we known about it earlier we probably would have tackled them all but alas we only had time for part of one of them before school started.  The boys absolutely loved the adventure of reading the map and finding the different Wenlocks and Mandevilles along the way.  I set it up nicely so that there was a lovely surprise waiting for them on the Embankment Bridge - the best mascot of all!

Star Wars

I thought the boys were a bit too young for Star Wars but evidently that's not the case.  It all started when the Lego Advent Calendar that I got for Nicholas had a Star Wars theme.  Every time a new character appeared we had to use the internet to look up who it and before long the boys started begging for the Lego Star Wars video clips on you tube.  Then a couple of weeks ago they were invited to a Star Wars fancy dress party.  There was great excitement as we concocted Darth Vader kind of outfits for them.  Now it's all about light-sabres, robots, aliens and faraway galaxies in this house!
