Big School
Wednesday the 7th of September 2011 was a big day for us. Our little boy started big school. He is only 4 and 3/4s and in many ways seems far too young to be going to school, but on the other hand he is totally ready. In England it is compulsory for children to start formal education in the September following their 4th birthday. It kind of equates to grade 0 in SA. We chose a private boys school called Donhead in Wimbledon. We're confident that it's the right option for our boys as it offers the kind of education that we would like for them. The school's recent ISC Inspection Report - equivalent of OFSTED for independent schools) - set our minds at ease as far as the quality of education is concerned. Nicholas is taking it all in his stride and is bubbling over with enthusiasm and excitement. It is, however, clear that he is very tired and really missing his freedom. The school day is very long for little people - 8h30 to 15h00 - so it's going to take a lot of getting used to for all of us. It's only the first week and he is already as happy as we are that it's weekend. At the end of the day Nick is full of happy stories everything they did that day. I was very pleased when I overheard him telling Daniel that he thinks he will love the school as much as he does when he goes there because it's awesome!
