The Lovely South Bank

The Imagine Children's Festival was on at the South Bank during half term.  It's a great festival, jam packed with fun and stimulating activities for kids.  Unfortunately we left it a bit too late to get tickets for some of the events we were interested in but we did manage to get tickets for the FUNharmonics show called Yikes Spikes.  We had interesting seats this time, right above the orchestra, so we had a great view.  Now that we understand the system better, we were excellent at beating the queues, so got to try quite a few instruments this time.  The boys absolutely loved it as usual!

For once we didn't have time constraints, so after enjoying street food from the market, we went on a stroll to find some graffiti.  There is a lot of it around on the South Bank.  We had a lot of discussions about each piece and whether it was art or vandalism and the boys were quite opinionated when it came to choosing their favourite walls.  We were surprised how they were totally engrossed when watching the artists at work.  Nicholas is keen to get a set of spray paints for his birthday.  Not sure if that is a good idea!

On the Monday we went back for more.  This time we took a couple of the boys' friends with us, they are brothers and in the same classes as our boys, so it works well.  Our main activity was to watch Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs which was awesome.  We also enjoyed some of the other activities on offer at the Royal Festival Hall and on the South Bank.  It was another good day out!

Nick turns 7!

Exactly 2 months ago today our Nicholas turned 7.  Time just seems to fly by.  This year his birthday fell on a Saturday so we had a lovely time spoiling him all weekend.  We started the day off with a pancake breakfast, of course, followed by opening cards and presents from near and far.  Thanks to everyone who helped make our boy feel special!

We had some special entertainment lined up for the afternoon - a box at the Royal Albert Hall for Classic Spectacular - a real treat for classical music lovers.  You should have seen Nick's face when the conductor wished him happy birthday in front of 8 000 people!

On Sunday we watched Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 at the cinema.  The boys absolutely enjoyed it and it really got their creative juices flowing.  They came up with so many great 'foodimals' of their own.  I couldn't resist a bit of a South African birthday treat as well so we went for 'eat as much as you like' rib special at the Spur afterwards.  It came along with a serious birthday hullabaloo by the staff!

Another part of Nicholas' birthday celebrations (the following weekend) was an outing to Twickenham to watch Barbarians v Fiji. He invited one of his friends, Maxime, to join him. They both had a fantastic time at their first live rugby match!
