Back in time - Sport

I'm still trying to catch up on photos from June/July.  It was summer here in England and that meant a whole lot of sporting events, activities and outings.  I have resigned myself to the fact that for the rest of my life I will be doing this sort of thing, given that I have two sporty sons.  I'm definitely not complaining!

Fitness Mad

During the summer term our Saturdays were very busy with us going from Football, to Sports Science to Golf.  It may sound terrible to those of you that are less keen on sport but our boys love it at the moment so we are taking full advantage of it.  Sports Science is basically athletics and since athletics is one of the main sports for the summer term we thought it was a good idea.  Nick thoroughly enjoyed it and it had a good effect on him.  Here is he with the floating trophy one week.  Interestingly, in Sports Science, the winner is based on statistics extracted from the heart rate monitor that is attached to the kids during the training session.  I think it's a great activity for sporty kids!

Two of Nick's buddies had a joint football party in the middle of June.  You would expect good weather given that it is meant to be summer.  But not on this particular day.  The heavens opened for the entire duration of the party and everyone was soaked right down to their underwear.  Everyone had a smile on their face though!

Sports Day

I love sports days.  I think it is a vital part of school life especially for boys.  I don't, however, really see the point of having silly races.  This year Nicholas was allocated to a 50m sprint, an egg and spoon race and a bean bag race.  Anyway, he had fun, and he did well getting a 3rd place (50m sprint), 2nd place (egg and spoon race) and 1st place (bean bag race).  And his team also won the relay (I think).  So it was a successful day all things considered!

Cricket Craze

Dad, along with some other sport loving dads from Warriors, took a bunch of their boys to watch England against New Zealand at The Oval.  It was a very exciting game to watch with a nail biting finish.  The boys really enjoyed singing along and getting into the whole 20-20 groove!

Cricket wasn't only a spectator sport for Nicholas this year.  In fact it was his favourite activity during the summer term and summer holidays.  Since it is a summer sport, it dovetails nicely with rugby, which takes a break for the summer.  So our Sunday mornings were spent at the Barnes Cricket Club and during the holidays also Tuesday nights at Old Ruts Cricket Club.  He just couldn't get enough!

As if Sunday morning on the cricket pitch wasn't enough, Nicholas would beg and plead for more bowling, for what seemed like hours on end on Sunday afternoons.  It paid off because he was picked for the U6 A team!

Can you imagine the excitement when we saw his name on for A team?  Usually he is in the B or C team for football and rugby matches at school so this was a welcome surprise.  They played so well.  The bowling was a bit all over the place but the batting and fielding were generally good.  Best of all was the excitement on the boys faces when they made a lot of runs or got someone out.  Maybe that funny remark in one of Nicholas' reports that said he shows talent as a left hand spin bowler will have some meaning after all!
