One of Daniel's birthday presents last year was a butterfly garden. They suggest that you order your caterpillars in spring/summer and since we did a lot of travelling last summer it took us a while to find the perfect time to get our caterpillars. May was filled with extreme excitement about our caterpillars, chrysalids and butterflies. They made an excellent show and tell for both boys accompanied by the handy little figurines depicting the life cycle of a butterfly. I tried to time it so that the butterflies would be around for Daniel's birthday - almost accurate - we set them free on the Friday before. This has been an amazing experience for Daniel. What a good idea for a birthday present!
