I collected boxes of all shapes and sizes for the months with the idea that I would do a recycling project with the boys. One Sunday afternoon in the summer we decided to clean out our shed so all the aforementioned boxes ended up on our lawn. It was a sunny day and we didn't have any plans to go out so it was the perfect opportunity to do something creative. Nicholas decided that we should build a rocket. What fun the boys had arranging the boxes in the necessary shape. With some careful balancing and lots of tape the end result was pretty good. We then made aliens with some of the smaller boxes brightening them up with some paint. The boys needed some convincing that it wasn't necessary to paint the whole rocket. They loved pretending to be aliens with their own home made props. It seemed like such a shame to break it all down and throw it away so we added yet another step where we turned the rocket into fancy dress that the boys could wear and run around in. That pretty much helped destroy it so that we could package it all for recycling!
Step 1: Building a rocket
Step 2: No rocket would be complete without some aliens
Step 3: Pretending to be astronauts
Step 4: Why not try dressing up like a rocket?
We neglected our vegetable garden last summer because of our trip to SA. The lack of sunshine and excessive rain didn't help much either. We got quite a few strawberries in the beginning of the season and ended up with one edible cherry tomato, a couple of deformed peppers and a handful of green beans. Or venus fly trap seemed to thrive - it even grew a long tentacle with flowers at the end - but we kept it inside. Better luck this year hopefully!
