Athletics

Athletics was the sport of the term so twice every week the boys got to practice their running as well as different field events. They also had two meets against other schools. These photos are from the event against Squirrels. Nick's running wasn't too good on this occasion, and if his ball had gone straight forward instead of straight up in the shot put, it would've been pretty good. His long jump, on the other hand, was brilliant. Esepcially the second one which I missed with the camera. I am so glad Donhead does this sort of thing because, being South African, I think sport is so important for these little guys!

All this was a build up to the Donhead Sports Day. Excitement filled the air as the three houses competed against each other. Each boy was entered in 3 events out of: sack race, bean bag race, egg and spoon race, 50m sprint and relay. Nicholas competed in the egg and spoon race, the 50m sprint and made the Campion relay team. The runners in the 50m sprint were very obviously seeded. We were delighted to see Nick's name amongst the fast boys in the A race. We had to prepare him that the competition would be tough because he would be racing against the fastest boys in Reception but that he could be proud of himself because he was one of those boys. In the end he came 6th out of 9 runners so not too bad. His team came second in the relay and he won his egg and spoon race. He was so proud to be one of the boys who got a certificate and a medal and so were we!
